How to Stop Drinking

I was thinking I drank alcohol for 30 some odd years and it made me sick from day one. When I look back that may have been my first sign that I was an alcoholic.

There were many more to come like several drunk drivings and many trips to jail. That's what you call going against the grain no pun intended.

I probably went to treatment more than a dozen times. Let me add that after all these years I still did not learn how to stop drinking.

Do not feel bad if you do not get it right the first or the tenth time. I believe we learn a little more each time.

I believe everyone is capable of recovery. It just takes what it takes. Don't give up before the miracle happens because you will eventually learn how to stop drinking.

Stick with your AA meetings and if this is not working consider going to alcohol addiction treatment.

Alcohol and heroin addiction

Alcohol and heroin addiction
go hand in hand. This is a well hidden fact many alcoholics are what I call closet heroin users.

I was a closet heroin user for a long time. I did not want anyone to know that I was using heroin therefore I went to great lengths to hide it.

I used to wear long sleeves to hide my tracks and would not let anyone around when I was shooting up heroin.

I eventually came out of the closet by then I was a full blown heroin addict. I was of the mind that it was cool to be a junkie.

How wrong is this if you need help I would suggest that you take action now before you too become a full blown heroin addict.

There is help for alcohol and heroin addiction one thing I suggest to all newcomers is to start attending NA meetings.

We have to do something to change our lives or we will die from the horrors of addiction. Try going to a meeting everyday.

There are other ways to quit drinking and doing heroin and one sure fire way is to go to
Heroin Addiction Treatment.

The 12 steps of AA

Maybe if you want to quit drinking you should follow these 12 simple guidelines to help you stop drinking.

12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous

1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol - that our lives had become unmanageable.

2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

5. Admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.

9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

How to Stop Drinking

I heard a guy share at an AA meeting the other day that he was stupid you see he just came back from a relapse.

The truth of the matter is we are not stupid quite the contrary although the disease of addiction will have us doing some stupid shit.

Yes alcoholism is a disease recognized by the medical profession. So you need to recognize at the very minimum that you have a drinking problem.

We do a lot of things while under the influence of alcohol that we would never consider doing when we are sober we must take action to change this message.

Like forget where we parked the car or wake up in a pile of vomit.

Recovery is action based Just for today quit telling yourself that you are stupid change the lie into something positive. This is how we stop drinking and start to know who we are.

If you need further help to learn how to stop drinking then why not consider alcohol addiction treatment or
Drug Addiction Therapy.

Alcoholism Help Withdrawal

I just wanted to share with you a little about alcoholism. Lets say for instance that you have been drinking for several years.

Here is a list of things you may experience if you suddenly stop drinking.

When the alcohol starts to leave your system it will cause a shock to your body and you may experience these symptoms.

You may become confused and have hallucinations these are know as delirium tremors.

You also may become Agitated easily.

You could experience fever.

You may also experience Convulsions.

Lastly- Black outs are when the person forgets what happened during the drinking episode.

If you are experiencing these symptoms I would strongly suggest going to alcohol addiction treatment for detox. Alcohol withdrawal can kill you they are nothing to play with.

If you can't get into rehab right away go to the E. R. they will treat you. They may give you some Librium for your withdrawal.
