Alcohol rehab

Alcohol rehab

A lot of alcohol rehabs try to do what they can as far as helping an alcoholic and this is no easy feat believe me some of them are a handful. The success rate for them is very low and whose fault is the blame often lands on the alcohol rehab.

Most alcohol rehabs simply help the alcoholic to stop drinking by removing the alcohol and then get them involved in a 12 step program and alcoholism treatment. This is not enough and does not work on many people at all.

What we need is a different approach. I like to use my own personal approach which I call the integrated approach to recovery. With this I would recommend treating the alcoholics spiritually, emotionally, physically, mentally, and and so forth. This should be done all at the same time.

If a person does this then they will most definitely stop drinking as well as enjoy a superior quality of life.

Changing your life is the best suggestion I can give on how to help an alcoholic.

Spiritually

For this I like to meditate read recovery literature as well and read from the bible. A person can also get involved with a local church.

Emotionally

OK going to meetings will help you with this because it will get you out of the house and around other people like yourself.

Mentally

Mentally we can go to a movie this is a great escape for the busy person in today’s world. One could also work a puzzle or find some other hobby these are all great ways to relax.

Physically

This is one of my favorites for this we need to eat balanced meals which will include veggies and a lot of fruit. I also like to take a long walk every day. One could also join a fitness program.

All of these things need to be done every day after one leaves alcohol rehab if you do not do them on a regular basis you will relapse.

Alcoholism treatment

It has been my experience that when it comes to getting alcoholism treatment most people are closed minded about doing the necessary things to stop drinking. What happens is they get it in their mind that they have to quit drinking for ever and this frightens them.

Do you know someone or do you think you may have a drinking problem yourself. Maybe you even have a family member that could benefit from alcoholism treatment. What needs to happen is whoever this applies to needs to take an honest survey of what is going on in their life and then they need to come to a very deep level of acceptance that there is in fact a problem.

A lot of people will tell you they do not have a problem they just enjoy drinking and that they can quit whenever they want to this is know as denial. I believe this when the alcoholic in question may see the truth and believe it even to the point of admitting they are indeed an alcoholic. Unfortunately this is not enough we need to go deeper a person must fully accept that they have the disease of alcoholism on a deeper level. They must accept that alcohol has got the best of them and that they are sick and tired of being sick and tired they need to admit that they need help anything less is still denial.

One can help a person to break through this denial for instance, do not enable them or rescue them if they get in trouble and land in jail do not bail them out let them sit and think about. They will try and tell you that they are through drinking. If they really mean it offer to drive them to alcoholism treatment when they get out this is the best way how to help an alcoholic. If they refuse then they are not ready. We need to treat the person just like we would if they were not drinking.

We can not do this on our own God knows I have tried stop drinking and I have tried every way in the book even switching to drugs and then back to drinking. None of these methods worked until I surrendered and asked for help this is the first step. Now when this happens we can look into the possibility of them wanting to go to alcoholism treatment.
Recovery is about action so if someone wants help then I would first suggest an alcohol detox because in some cases it is necessary to prevent serious side effects from alcohol withdrawal. This will be done medically so the person will not have to suffer much with withdrawal. Then when the person is finish with this the can proceed with alcoholism treatment. This should be a great start for anyone who wants to learn how to stop drinking.

Good luck
