Do you know someone who may be a closet alcoholic?

I am willing to bet that someone out there may have family member or know a person which could even be a friend that could be considered a closet alcoholic. Perhaps you have seen some weird behavior like they drink very little in front of you but still seem to get themselves pretty loaded.

Here are some signs of a closet alcoholic that one should be aware of.

These people will have certain tells or behavior patterns. If the person seems to be drinking heavily and consuming large quantities of alcohol this could be a sure sign.

Another sign is does the person in question call in sick to work quite frequently? If this is happening then they indeed may be a closet alcoholic.

Always acting like they have to be somewhere they never stick around very long in one certain place this is another sign.

Here is probably the biggest give away of all and it was my favorite. Isolation- closet drinkers need to be alone just them and their booze. If you notice this then it is defiantly another sign.

Another sign is hiding liquor bottles throughout the house so they have a drink handy at all times. My aunt used to keep hers under the kitchen sink that way she could duck into the kitchen when she wanted for a little nip this is a case of alcoholism at its finest.

They will also say that they have not been drinking and you know that they have because they reek of alcohol.

Most closet drinkers will say that they do not have a problem this is a classic case of denial. They think they have their drinking under control when if fact they do not. They are just lying to themselves and anyone who will listen to them. They will go to great lengths to prove to you and themselves that they are not an alcoholic.

These people will have to hit their bottom like everyone else but you can let them know that you know all about there drinking habits. There is not a lot you can do for them until they are ready to stop drinking. I would suggest that you just be there for them until that time comes but do not enable them.
